5 Ways to Create a Portfolio --Without A Single Client
How do you show samples of your work when you don’t have any work samples? It’s easier than it sounds.
Here are a few ideas to get you started:
01.Choose a company you would want to work for, and write a brochure or sales letter about your favorite product.
Try to have it designed as well. "Finished" pieces--even though they were done for your own portfolio--are more impressive to clients than plain old Microsoft Word files.
Write a feature article on a subject that interests you and post it on sites like ideamarketers and ezine articles.
This way, you can say they’re published and show actual links to where they are.
Create a great website for yourself showing off your great copy ability.
If you write your own compelling website, it's a sure sign you'll be able to create an exciting one for your clients, too.
Write a fantastic prospecting letter.
Your prospects will see how well you "sell" yourself, and will be more likely to hire you if they like what they read.
Produce your own product, and develop an advertising campaign for it.
Write an e-book, start an ezine, sell golf cartoons (like a friend of mine does), and write your own marketing materials. Not only will you be able to brag about your great results, but you'll snag some extra income for yourself, too.
Writers are professionals.
Like a doctor, like a teacher, like a business executive you should demand a decent wage for your hard work. Only write for clients that offer you REAL money for your work. Remember, you're worth it.
